The second season of Your Honor has recently been released on Sony Liv and since the story of the first season has been carried forward, one or two new characters come in, toh khalte nahi hai. No other new season of this series is expected. The series is strong because the actors are all top class and the direction is also good while this series is an official adaptation of a famous Israeli series.
The plot of Israel’s web series named Quodo is explosive. An honest judge, whose decisions always clear the difference between right and wrong, is worried about his only son. Suddenly he learns that his son has hit a motorcyclist on the highway with his car. On going and seeing, it is known that the motorcycle rider is the elder son of a mafia Mudki family. The judge fixes the car with the help of one of his friends. Due to the interference of another mafia, the Pandit family, this same friend of the judge loses his life and the leader of this mafia family, Pandit, is also killed. The judge tries everything possible to save his son and weaves a trap in which he himself gets trapped.
The mafia family wants to avenge their son and the judge wants to save his son. The son of the Mudki family survives, but due to the injury on his brain, he becomes completely handicapped. So that he does not take revenge after recovering, the judge kills him by shooting him. The story of season 2 is ahead of this. The judge’s son is in jail because of an accident case, the judge wants to compromise with the mafia family. On the other hand, the second mafia family still wants to settle the widow of the judge and his deceased friend. After a long run, life starts to get back on track when another accident happens in which the judge loses his son.
Since the web series is an adaptation, not much has to be done in terms of story and screenplay, but the writer duo Neeraj Pandey (not the director) and Ishaan Trivedi have done a good job together in Indianizing it. The story has been set in Ludhiana and the characters have also been given a local colour. The writing has to be praised, a lot of detailing has been done, hard work is also visible on the characters. Jimmy Shergill is the Atlas of the web series. They have arrested the age. Even after so many years, honesty and innocence is visible on the face. As a judge, he has given decisions keeping his feelings aside, but when it comes to himself, he is ready to do anything. Jimmy is very good in his role. Varun Badola is in the role of his friend. Varun does less work but does a great job. Let’s turn the personality according to the role.
He dies at the end of season 1, but in season 2, his wandering soul serves to show the mental conflict of the judge, like Guilty Conscience. In season 2, the characters of Gulshan Grover and Mahi Gill have been inserted. Due to the good actors, they save the weakness of the script at many places. If Meeta Vashisht’s forced Punjabi accent is ignored, she gives a tough fight to judge Jimmy. Meeta has put acting experience and has taken her character to a different level.
Some characters have been visible in season 2 but work could have gone on without them. An important character is of Zeeshan Quadri. Wanting to avenge his brother’s death, he wants to settle scores with the judge and his friend’s widow. He has become the leader of Bhaiya gang of UP or Bihar in Ludhiana. The language is mixed and Punjabi is not spoken, so it seems that the flavor of Gangs of Wasseypur is still alive. His clothes, his t-shirt, his phone or the ringtone of Bhojpuri song on that phone, all these are good but he kept on overacting.
Directed by E Niwas and Abdul Aziz Khokar together. There is no scope to do much in adaptation because it is frame by frame adaptation, yet the director duo should be praised for keeping the story interesting and full of pace. Your Honor season 2 is also not as strong as season 1 because in season 1 you are getting introduced to the cast and characters and you have to see everything from the end. In season 2, you do not get to see anything unexpected, so there are no shocks. It might be a bit overwhelming to watch both the seasons together but every episode keeps you hooked and every episode ends at such a point where watching the next episode becomes a compulsion. This is a victory for the writers and directors. Must see.
